An Exciting Gender Neutral Nursery Refresh

Today, I am soo excited to be sharing a beautiful gender neutral nursery transformation project that I had the pleasure of working on for a sweet new momma.

About four and a half years ago, when I was very pregnant with Claire, I was heading off on maternity leave from teaching mid-year and a young and ambitious teacher named Amy was hired to take over my position.

We got to know each other a bit during this time and she did a wonderful job stewarding those little Kindergarten children toward success as they finished off a great year together.

Fast forward a few years, when we walked into Ava’s first day of of grade 1 at our neighbourhood school, only to discover that her teacher would be Amy!

And, lucky us, all of the stars aligned and Amy just happened to be Ava’s grade 2 teacher as well.

I can honestly not say enough good things about her! She has played such an important role in our family’s life over the past 4 years.

And so, when Amy became pregnant last year and approached me about doing a nursery refresh for her I was all in and couldn’t wait to get started!

Planning a Nursery Refresh

Amy had already purchased her crib, glider and dresser along with a few adorable items: a wall decal, mobile and woodland animal prints.

She wanted to create a beautiful, neutral, peaceful space to spend time in when her baby arrived.

Because she didn’t know if she was having a girl or a boy, this needed to be a gender neutral nursery!

We discussed elements that she was drawn to and discovered that she loves creams, taupes and whites and is also inspired by Jillian Harris’s style.

Amy had the beginnings of a great space, but needed vision and a to-do list to make this the nursery she had always dreamed of!

I love working with clients to make sense of a space – how it should function, how they want to feel when they are in it and to hone in on the “must have” elements that will bring my client joy every time they walk into it … not just today, but for years and years to come!

I’m all about simple and timeless design and function that will serve you well for the long term.

Based off of current pictures of the room and a discussion with Amy, I started this project by creating a Gender Neutral Nursery mood board to inspire!

Along with the mood board, I supplied Amy with a source list including the location and cost of each item so that she could pick and choose what worked within her budget and still achieve the desired results!

Then, Amy got to work finding the products and she enlisted her mom and hubby to do some painting and simple wood work in the room to bring it all together.

Nursery Organization

Along with the overall design of the space, I also provided Amy with practical organizational solutions for the dresser drawers and closet that would keep everything in its place and within easy reach during those late night feedings and diaper changes.

This project was simply a dream and I was beyond honoured to get to create this peaceful, serene nursery for mama and her little angel, Harper Lynn.

Isn’t she just the sweetest?! (She must take after her momma!)

Are you a fan of neutral spaces? Or, are you all about adding pops of colour? I’d love to know!
